In the afternoon, set off on a guided chimpanzee trek. You will walk through the forest with expert rangers, listening for the calls of the chimps. With luck, you will spot a troop and watch them play, forage, and interact in their natural habitat.
Later, return to your lodge for relaxation. Options include Ndali Lodge or Kyaninga Lodge, both offering comfort, sweeping views, and excellent service.
This morning, a short flight takes you to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Known for its rolling savannahs and volcanic craters, the park is one of Uganda’s most diverse wildlife destinations.
Enjoy a game drive where you may encounter elephants, buffalo, lions, and perhaps a leopard resting in the shade. In the afternoon, board a private boat for a cruise along the Kazinga Channel. Here, hippos crowd the riverbanks, crocodiles bask in the sun, and a dazzling array of birds soar overhead.
Spend the night at Kyambura Gorge Lodge or Mweya Safari Lodge, both offering a perfect blend of luxury and wilderness.
After breakfast, fly into the remote Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park. This area is famous for its rare tree-climbing lions, which often rest high in fig trees during the heat of the day.
Game drives in Ishasha offer excellent chances to see these lions, as well as herds of elephants and Uganda kob. The park here is quieter, giving you an exclusive safari experience away from the crowds.
In the evening, return to Ishasha Wilderness Camp. This luxury tented camp provides an authentic yet comfortable stay in the heart of the wilderness.
Today, take a short flight to Kihihi Airstrip and drive to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This ancient rainforest is one of the last strongholds of the endangered mountain gorilla.
Check into your luxury lodge, such as Bwindi Lodge or Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge. In the afternoon, you may take a guided walk in the forest, visit a nearby community, or simply relax as you prepare for your gorilla trekking adventure.
This is the highlight of your safari. After an early breakfast, meet your ranger guides and set out on a gorilla trek. The walk may take several hours depending on the gorillas’ movements, but the reward is life-changing.
Once you find the gorilla family, you will spend an hour observing them in their natural habitat. Watch as the silverback leads, the youngsters play, and the mothers care for their infants. This extraordinary encounter is often described as one of the most moving wildlife experiences on earth.
Return to your lodge for well-earned rest. Later, enjoy sundowners overlooking the forest or indulge in a massage to complete your day.
